Roofing Boom: Poland's Market Surges 94% as IKO Moves into Tile-Look Metal Roofing
This week in the roofing industry is a study in contrasts: in Poland, investors are abandoning new home construction in droves, yet piling into roof replacements so fast that the sector is up 94% year over year. Across the Atlantic, meanwhile, IKO is betting on consolidation, entering the tile-look metal roofing market with its new IKO Metals brand.

Poland's Roofing Market Grows 94% as Ground-Up Home Building Slows
The latest construction market report leaves no room for doubt: roofers, not general contractors building homes from scratch, are now the hottest segment of Poland's construction industry [1]. Orders for roof replacement and installation work are up 94% since the start of the year, with investors overwhelmingly opting for full roof replacements rather than minor repairs.
At the same time, inquiries about turnkey single-family home construction fell 42% between January and the end of July. It's not hard to see why: building a house from the ground up now costs 6,500–9,000 PLN per square meter, which puts a standard 120 m² home anywhere from 780,000 PLN to over a million PLN. Faced with those numbers, Poles would rather invest in what they already own than start a new build from the foundations up.
For the roofing industry itself, that's good news, though not without a catch — material prices are climbing right along with demand. Steel roof tile sheeting alone now costs 50–90 PLN/m², which adds up quickly on larger projects and eats into investors' budgets. For roofing companies and material distributors, the takeaway is clear: it's worth investing in capacity for replacements and renovations, since this segment — not new construction — will be the one driving the market over the coming quarters.

IKO Consolidates Its Tile-Look Metal Roofing Portfolio Under the DECRA Brand
While demand for classic roofing is rising in Poland, North America is seeing consolidation in the tile-look metal roofing segment. Manufacturer IKO has launched a new brand, IKO Metals, folding into its portfolio DECRA's stone-coated steel roofing — a brand with nearly 40 years on the market, acquired by IKO in 2018 as part of its purchase of Roof Tile Group [2].
The new line builds on IKO's earlier $60 million investment in its 205,000 m² plant in Ennis, Texas, which came online a year ago. The launch lineup under "DECRA by IKO Metals" includes three profiles: a Mediterranean-style ceramic tile, a farmhouse shake styled after cedar wood, and a classic Spanish tile. All variants carry the highest impact-resistance rating (Class 4), a Class A fire rating, and a lifetime warranty covering winds up to 120 mph and hail up to 2.5 inches in diameter.
It's a move that strengthens IKO's position in a segment where competition for customers seeking the durability and look of tile — but in a lightweight metal form — is only intensifying. For the Polish market, it's a hint at the direction global metal roofing manufacturers may be heading, and what local distributors and contractors might expect from them next.
